Ecstatic over getting an unanticipated ninth seed, Villanova coach Jay Wright stumbled starting the news conference Sunday.
The
Wildcats didn't get into the NCAA Tournament last year, which is why
Wright laughed along with the media when asked if he'd forgotten how to
act on Selection Sunday.
“That's what I love about coaching in Philly,” he said.
The
Wildcats went just 13-19 last year in snapping a streak of seven
straight and sometimes spectacular appearances, including a trip to the
Final Four in 2009. In that dance they were eliminated by North
Carolina, who they open this one against Friday in the South Region in
Kansas City.
It's
fair to say Wright and the Wildcats (20-13) like their seeding more
than their opponent, as the eighth-seeded but unranked Tar Heels (24-10)
play at a frenetic Louisville-type pace. The Cardinals crushed the
Wildcats in the Big East tournament.
Then
again, Wright fretted the Wildcats would have to open the NCAA
tournament in a play-in game. A Tuesday game followed by a Friday tipoff
would have been disastrous.purplesuprashoes Speaking
of which, the Cats didn't know if they'd be going anywhere after
stunning losses to La Salle and Temple during a three-game skid earlier
this season.
“We're obviously thrilled to be in the tournament, supra skate shoes”
Wright said. “When you're in the position we're in you have to sit back
and wait and see how they value you because you don't know. We're
honored and humbled that they gave us a ninth seed. We're proud of that.
And to get to play Carolina in the NCAA Tournament, heck, that's why
you come to Villanova. It doesn't get any better than that, to play one
of the greatest programs in the history of college basketball in the
NCAA Tournament.”
So
the beauty confession of last week was that Sarah Jessica Parker's
lhigh heel habit has deformed her feet. However! That news does not
deter me from my love of gorgeous shoes, even though they are often
painful and might one day cause me to grow extra bones in weird places
as Parker says happened to her (ouch!).
So
now that spring is springing, I'm looking lustfully at all the pretty,
impractical footwear out there that's almost but not quite as
impractical as the world's most uncomfortable shoes. After all, it's
just about time to burn my winter boots in a bonfire. And here's my own
little confession -- don't judge me! -- I'm TOTALLY into TOMS cute new
wedges.
Here
are 7 pairs of spring and summer heels that I'm ogling, because even
though most of my warm-weather moments will be spent in flip-flops, it's
good to have something sexy supra shoes for girls for those occasions where you don't have to actually walk!
