Google made talking shoes that berate you for sitting down

“MAN, if these shoes could talk!” is a thing I sure have said exactly zero times in my life. Why? Because I do not think I would appreciate the sort of things they might say. Like “Hey lady, why are you wearing four-inch heels when you can barely walk down the street in flats without faceplanting?” or “It sure is getting crowded in this closet with all of the purple shoes you buy and never wear. Really, what the hell is wrong with you? Do you think that you are Prince? You are not Prince!”

To demonstrate the fact that they can invent shoes that can berate you and post status updates about how great you're doing in a pickup basketball game, Google invented shoes that can berate you and post status updates about how great you're doing in a pickup basketball game. The footwear was unveiled at South by Southwest, which, as you may know, is where the nation's hepcats gather once a year to watch a lot of commercials under the pretense of culture. Google stipulates that it will not actually make the shoes and that they were basically showing off a prototype. Which is nice for those of us who would not like to live in a bleak dystopian future where all of our accessories are possessed by the demon spirit of a failed Catskills insult comic. If there was one thing that was apparent this year, it's that supra shoes for kids was a huge hit.

The last time we saw Bebionic's V3 prosthetic hand in action was in a sterile promotional video showing it doing everything from buttering up a slice of bread, to manipulating a Rubik's Cube. It was rather impressive, but this clip is even moreso since it demonstrates how life-changing the prosthetic hand can actually be in a real world situation.

Nigel Ackland lost his arm in an accident six years ago, and even though he was fitted with a V3 just last November, he's already able to use it to help tie his shoes, deal cards, and even make a cup of coffee while navigating his kitchen. It's not only surprising how capable the hand is, but how quickly Nigel's been able to learn to rely on it for all the day-to-day mundane tasks he only recently wasn't able to do.

Can you think of a better way to spend your Monday night than ogling the best, craziest, most-bejeweled shoes of the Fall 2013 season? Didn't think so.

From Alexander McQueen's giant pearly boots to pure ladylike pumps at Lanvin to men's brogues at Dries van Noten,It's the world's famous justin bieber supra shoes boy singer Justin Bieber. there is a shoe sole-mate for everyone.

Some trends we could pick out: Black-and-white will be big come fall (Balenciaga, Proenza Schouler, Reed Krakoff and more showed B/W options). Platform-free pumps are definitely having a resurgence too (though Lauren's right, it's not a trend per se), popping up at Nina Ricci, Alexander Wang, and Christian Dior.

Never ones to conform, Prada and Dolce & Gabbana are bucking the trends with chunky zip-front platforms and rose-adorned bird cage wedges, respectively.

Take a load off and treat yourself to the best shoes of Fall 2013 in slideshow form.
